Ace of Cups

Some days are bad hair days, while some others are just painfully hard to bear. Yesterday was one of the latter. I was wiling away my time watching the marathon session of the tv series Sex and the City. This, after attending 7 hours of a class and having finished a presentation. Presentations can have their specialties- ours was that the presenter from our group was not aware of the article details. Now, its true that in 2 years of an mba one would have learned the art of precisely this. But to transform the sentence of "HR is moving away from an administrative and transactional role" to "HR is moving away from an administrative to a transactional role" is really thinking out of the box, maybe in fact thinking outside of the article beyond the purview of simple logic. But, I think the less said of it the better.

So, I am back from the class watching this series and I get a phone call. This is somewhat of a disturbance but its okay cos it is from a guy who usually has to say something funny..but his story today totally lacks the punch. Any way in my part of the conversation I tell him I am sad and bored. In the holiday season and on the day of Christmas I have had classes all day and I don't have anybody to go out with. This is sometimes a good thing but alas, also a bad thing. Lack of 'company' is desirable when the availability pool of 'company' is also synonymous with a pool of people who are annoying /boring. So, its been quite some time that I have gone out to a decent restaurant and had a really pleasant and enjoyable meal. Also, it seems awfully unfair that people around me have so much to do even though I find them not so hot either!

After this brief and not so enjoyable phone conversation I went to have dinner and a walk post that. Later in my room I come back to see a missed call from the same guy. On the next chance that I got to speak to him he told me some really horrible things. In a little bit of a background I am studying in an MBA college, final semester and I don't have a job. This is year 2008, the month of December, and also the year of recession. So, this guy, from here on referred to as mole, said I should try to do my best for the company which comes to campus next cos one of his friend has told him about the dire and grim situation. Its not like I am not aware of it, we all are in the throes of these torrential times but this is bad news: one which cannot be drunk even with a dry martini.

This news has totally upset me and I am very near to tears, although i am still watching snc. A friend pings me a link to a tarot reading site. After shuffling twice and dreading if something more upsetting comes up-I pick a card. It is an ace of cups, which means that "I will get what I am expecting". Just like that I think to myself that Yes, it will all be fine. I still cry myself to sleep but there is still a glimmer of hope and a belief that things will look up. Plus if there's anything that I really have is the fact that I Believe.

Witch World

Why are there so many bitches in the world. Gender bias apart, this piece is solely from the woman's point of view. And the reason is nothing except that being one I know not about the existence of a male equivalent.

There are so many women out in the world who are just going to get to you. You may have your defenses but they just will get to you. There's the one kind who makes you green eyed because she already has everything you could possibly wish for-the pearls, the shoes, the purse and of course the dress. It is apparent that this is not really her fault. But, the truth is if you have it all I wish you had the modesty to not show it all off simply in one go..

There is another kind who are just plain manipulative. The all sweet, helpless kind who cannot sneeze without somebody handing them a tissue or a shirt sleeve [definitely a man's]. That's the one Konkana Sen is playing in her recent release Dil Kabbadi. The movie is hilarious and she is her usual brilliant self. But, that's digressing- I am not a movie critic. Just playing the part of a woman critic.
But there is also another kind of the manipulative type-who uses her charm in some other ways, her laughter, her words, her whole body is nothing but a charade. Little to be said about this one cause she is quite popular, hard to distinguish but nonetheless very dangerous.

Then there is the vile woman-not very popular but a lying, thieving, deceiving and eying one. She is the one who is always jealous. The antithesis to the first type of woman.

Now I have met:
 None of the above
 One of the above
 Two or more of the above
 All of the above

My answer would be the last- all of the above. Which is the most annoying? Hard to say, cos they all choose their moments. In fact a common trait that connects all is that they time themselves well. It is like they have been practicing it their whole life. I am surprised that so many types have crossed paths with me only this last year. Phew!!

The one bitch that is my reason for dealing with this topic is the one I call the unsolicited solicitor. She is the one who doles out advice without being asked for. Isn't this adorable..oops an admirable quality. Really it is an innate desire in women to constantly nag, and not one of us is devoid of it but who wants an opinion of the music in pizza hut! Its neither the opera house in Sydney or the orchid hotel. The only response to such undeserving comments is an Aaaargghhhh! There are some of us who would do a Rip Van Winkle on this kind.

Ever since I became an adolescent I developed this hobby of zoo-morphism: it is an ability to relate an animal to a person(man/woman). So somebody could be like an elephant while another could resemble a frog. I did not ever imagine that I would have to relate the entire female race to the best friend of a "MAN".
When did all of us become such bitches or is it just perception?

Woe beside

Last new year was a lean new year. I was in my room alone and happily (well may be not so..)ensconced in my bed. Thats when a phone woke me up to consciousness. It was from a distant friend. He's distant not because he is distant but because he was not in India. All the while in my first semester there were a few people who kept me alive. He's one of them.
He wished me happy new year in advance in spite of the time difference and asked my plans, when I explained my situation he said that we could celebrate it together. And hola I did! I had skipped dinner so I made myself cup noodles..yum ;) and we decided to drink. I had a peg of fine whiskey which he only had gifted me some months earlier. So, that's what we did. After midnight our reverie was disturbed by other phone calls.
This year I remember him cos I am dreading the arrival of that day. As it approaches my heart fills with trepidation that I have no plans this year...nothing to look forward to the day or the year ahead. Destiny has something in store for me about which I am clueless, and the heart and mind are yelling for escape.
This is year there is no him as differences crept in between us and what do you know what the new year holds for me.

Wondrous Wanton

There was so much that I wanted to write about. All of last year I kept thinking how I would have a moment to stop and I would start a blog...vent my anger on the numerous people I could barely even stand. But I guess that's all in the past and not just that it seems distant and fuzzy to remember it. Had I remembered it would have been quite a tale to tell. So any way I wrote some of it and then forgot about writing more..the diurnal chores kept me about and away from condensing my thoughts.

Its only now, after a marathon of 24 hours of sex and the city, that I was prompted to write again. Its incredulous that NY offers so much sex or that's an exaggeration of the director or the author (Candace Bushnell) was some kind of a sexaholic. How do these 4 women meet with each other quite often despite leading high powered lives, which also involves a great deal of sexual activity, for brunch day after day. There are these two men in Carrie's life which apparate and disapparate in her life- which is surprising since she woos them one after the other. Why would you do that if quintessentially you did not want to settle down or were this liberated.

This may prove to be an opening for something else altogether now. This is Pune not N.Y. and the question of commitment has come up in my discussions with many a people in the last fortnight despite the fact there are more pressing matters to be discussed! I have had conversations at 11 am, 4:30 pm and past midnight with different people; all from the same generation but distinctly different genres on this topic- is commitment disappearing?or is it relevant? All people, correction, most people I know are going out of their relationships these days. It is hard to understand if there has been a latent demand for it in the market and suppliers have only woken up to it now or monogamy is on its way out..everywhere

There is a guy who does it unashamedly and tells me it's for socializing/inter cultural ties (many of his partners have been from outside of this country), then there is this other one deceptively sweet looking but is doing somebody under the covers in a motel. I asked a third if this normal and he said the danger is for real. Apparently everybody is afraid of it happening to them but if 2 people agree then who are we to say. I have been blamed for being judgmental, but is it not true that if I don't there will be no rules in the society. And I say this even though I don't believe much in these rules anyway. It should not be a social stigma to be lascivious, polygamous, and all that but how many men and women want to live in harems? or want to be cheated upon? Is cheating limited to men, or women are a part of this equally?
